Yes there really is an "Awful Kanofal". He worked with a young Robert (Evel) Knievel at the Anaconda Copper Company. He got the nickname "Awful" because he liked to beat the hell out of people when he got drunk, which was every night. He also beat his kids and wife and was generally awful. Knievel thought the nickname was "cool" and copied it. His mother made him spell it "Evel" instead of "Evil" because she was a good Catholic.
When I left Butte in the early 1980's old Awful was in a nursing home and his kids and grandkids lived in Butte and Anaconda. They hated the old fart and never visited him.
Now, do you really want to copy this guy?
